This story has some wonderful merits, but it's one failing is the repeatability of all the problems that Margaret faces making the story a bit of a drudge to plod through at times. Margaret knows the problems that she faces. She chose to raiser her friends child and all the consequences that come with that. Her father could have stopped Margaret from initially taking the child in, but allowed it to indulge her, but when faced with the Ton's rejection and possible scandal; He tries to marry her off to the first proposal on the table that enriches his pockets. In the end, wouldn't it be easier to let her marry the man she would be happy with and step out of society, than let her be unhappy. Moral of this story is that wealth and society's good opinion doesn't make for a happy life.
