This is a really sad tale about loss and grief. A new Duke who is grieving his brother, hides from his mother and estate manager. Teresa an expectant maid, grieving the lost of her love, while having his baby. Miriam, a baron's daughter, who now lives in poverty because her father lost his money in investments. This story is poorly written about the land agent's move for power. He had to know Ralph would have audited the books after Cooper deciding to destroy everything the Duke was trying to build. I wouldn't have been as kind. I would have taken my books to the magistrate and had him transported. And besides, a Duke doesn't have to prove thievery, he says it and it is so in England. A Duke or a commoner who is the magistrate going to believe?
