This is an epic story. It has it all. Just when you think things have settled, a new twist is introduced. Navigating the English courts during the Crusades was a dance that demanded careful navigating. Our heroine is naïve and adventurous which lands her in all kinds of hot water. She seems to calm down when she realizes her husband actually loves her and doesn't just tolerate her. I thing Prince John & his Sheriff played the courts while King Richard was in the Holy Lands. This story shows that even while King Richard was in the Holy Lands. He sent brave and noble knights home to defend against his own brother. This story has great depth of each character and the adventures of war, chivalry, loyalty, honor and love creates characters larger than life, and characters that grow as the tale unfolds.
