Married to the Traumatized Viscount by Dorothy Sheldon

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story introduces a compelling mystery: Danger at a house party, where James and Penelope must uncover who poisoned Lord Harrington. The plot is rich with suspense, action, and excellent development, making the central investigation engaging from start to finish.

The strength of the novel lies in its protagonists. Penelope, a published botanist, offers a grounded intelligence and sharp observation skills vital to the case. Her partner, James, a Viscount and veteran of His Majesty’s army, provides the necessary strategic insight and protective edge.

Their dynamic is particularly well-crafted. Penelope is presented as a light to James's darkness, providing stability and respect that complements his background. The author effectively establishes that James carries the psychological burden of his military service—what we recognize today as PTSD. However, this element of his character is not consistently maintained after the house party begins, nor is it thoroughly addressed with Penelope, which feels like a missed opportunity to deepen their connection.

Ultimately, the novel prioritizes the relationship above all else. Though the plot is strong, the author chooses to let the villain escape justice. While this may disappoint readers seeking a tidy resolution, it serves the clear thematic purpose: love prevails. The true triumph is the powerful partnership and deep respect found between James and Penelope.
