The Commander's Affair by Madeline St. James

I thought the book was well written, but the story and plot did not sit well me. Also, I know how difficult being a mistress was in those times, but she never should have come back from Wales. The divorce alone it made it dangerous for her, and she would have been spurned wherever she went; even though she never actually had physical relations with the man. As far as I am concerned, Daniel was indiscreet to where his affections lay, and causing undue harm to Charlotte. Daniel just could have dragged his wife through the mud, and been done with the whole business. The author is too soft, because the wife deserved everything she got running off with a common fisherman. Because Daniel is a stupid man, he ended up dragging his heart's affection through the mud with him. Really! What kind of man or gentleman does that!
