Pain of the Marquess by Deborah Wilson

This is a sad and painful story of a woman who discovers how wicked her father had been. She tries to right his wrongs, but an assailant is terrifying her in her own home. The man she has always loved is hiding secrets from her, although he offers his protection in marriage. This story contains much heartbreak and pain, and even when Clive is emotionally tearing Lydia apart. Lydia holds herself together and forgives him, because that's what love does. Love does not abandon, it forgives. A lesson Clive Fawley is going to learn.
