The promise of a psychological thriller is that it falls short. Most of the time, she is in her right mind. I saw the Jeff thing from a mile away. In fact, so did our leading lady, but ignored all the warning signs in spite of being paranoid. Apparently she is not paranoid enough, for she make several stupid mistakes that someone who is paranoid doesn't make. It doesn't read as well as it could have and the mistakes should have killed her. Also anxiety pills have some severe side effects, but she appeared not to have any side effects from taking them. I never liked Jeff. He was too sweet and our leading lady was too caught up in Kendrick's journal and her memories that it took reading it over a dozen times to figure out the discrepancies. In fact, she was just glad to have someone to talk about this with, but failed to look into Jeff's background. This book focuses on the dark of human trafficking, but really fails to tell truth of the hell these women live. It just shows one person bringing down one ring. The only truth that rings is that Kendrick should have researched who he was going to work for before taking the job.
