This is a strange world that Mary Auclair has created. The concepts are good, but they really don't come together in her writing. Her characters are enigmatic and engaging, but some of her creatures are quite frightening, and at times I got lost in their descriptions. This story took some effort for me to read and I found I just wanted to skip over the erotic scenes.
