The Dashing Lord of Her Heart by Alice Kirks

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the first story I have read by this author. The story and the characters are well-written. The plot is woman runs away to London from beastly fiance, includes grabbing and bruising her and threats to her person. She finds a position cleaning in a shop, but a Lady comes in and likes that she speaks French, and hires her as her Lady's maid without her brother's permission. Said brother is intrigued with new Lady's maid, but catches her occasionally speaking correct English. How Lord Crompton handles the situation when he finds out why Elizabeth is hiding out is magnanimous, but I think Elizabeth is a really naive and stupid person if she thinks her father won't recognize her in a maid's costume. My point here is that this is contrast to Elizabeth's intelligence on how she has handled everything up until this point. Lord Crompton already knows everything by this point in the story. Why not just tell him who he invited to dinner? I understand why the author wrote it this way, so the story would come to a quicker climax, but it felt wrong to harm our heroine in this way. Otherwise, this is very enjoyable story.
