This is a lovely story and Lady Mary Mowbrah reaches the reader's heart. She stuck by Colonel Starret for over six years. The major fault of our hero is his "woe is me" attitude. If a six year old boy or Mary hadn't reasoned him into getting out of bed and physically working to get better, he'd still be lying there feeling sorry for himself. It's only when Mary gets him to admit what his attitude towards her family is doing to their relationship, can he rise to the Colonel and man that Mary knows him to be. This is a story of overcoming injury and disability. It's also learning to accept your worth, instead of trying to prove it.
