Had potential, but the story lacks continuity
Great characters and a striking cover cannot save a plot that constantly loses its footing.
The terms of the main arrangement shift continually. First the couple plans to marry, then they do not. He integrates her into his clan and lets her grow close to his daughter, only to promise to help her escape before the handfasting while sharing a narrow bed at an inn. Next, he rides back to that same inn, suddenly realizes he loves her, and charges straight into the climax and the villain reveal.
Bea’s father makes a thoroughly dislikeable character, but the narrative fails to maintain its own logic. Had the author kept a clean continuity around the arranged marriage, this would have been a strong story. Instead, the plot fails to hold up under the confusion.
