I felt this story did not carry the passion or emotional impact that the abuse that Crystal experienced was ever truly expressed. I felt I was just one of the students on campus watching Crystal interact with others. The developing friendship and romance with Mario was the interesting part of the story, and I felt that I came in at the back end of this story, because it seem we are just reading about the aftermath with no real emotional connection.
